Be The Solution Debut

For those who have become accustomed to reading my musings on Multiply, this site will now be the host for these thoughts, which will then get copied and linked to for everyone to enjoy! ILDI is in transition and this is just step one! Our aim is to have available an interactive volunteer blog, forum and resource by the end of this year. We have the domain name registered and we are now in the process of building the site!

What everyone will see on this blog going forward will be brief snippets of leadership training materials and lessons that we are preparing for use in the developing world. It is my intention for this forum to be the "you saw it here first" place for our materials. PLEASE make comments and give me your feedback on content, stories, pictures and more that will be appearing so that we can make the coming volunteer forum as awesome as possible!

My musings for today are on the importance of momentum. Momentum is a lot like a big rock. If you are pushing this rock, it is much easier to keep it going than to get it started. And of course, changing directions is much easier done while the rock is in motion than when the rock is stationary. John Maxwell, leadership guru, says that "if you have momentum, please don't kill it." I've done this once (killed momentum) before in order to change the direction of the ship drastically. The process was painful, but necessary, and one I don't wish to repeat EVER again. Now, however, I feel a positive momentum building both from within our organization and outside our organization. No doubt, things are tough in the nonprofit world with many nonprofits feeling the pinch of foundation's stock portfolios dropping and their individual donors' spending more at the pump and the grocery. But, I sense that this season is not forever and that those who are able to maintain momentum in a positive direction will come out stronger. And we are doing just that. Every day I am amazed by the new volunteers and donors we are attracting. It is an awesome weight to hear people praise what we do and know that we cannot take the sole credit. The credit goes mainly to our partners in the developing world, who fight everyday under tougher circumstances than we can imagine. It is the thought of them that motivates me day-in and day-out and the reason why I won't be killing momentum again anytime soon! Onward and upward, I say!
